Van Morrison – Moondance Lyrics

Well, it’s a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
‘Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I’m trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night’s magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

[Chorus]
Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love

Summer is over the old cow said….Well I do truly like fall but the shorter days get me down, so a pick me up, I’m re-blog a piece of mine from last year.
ENJOY!

Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (1040 to 1099); was an 11th Century Castilian Nobel, a Spanish knight and military commander who became known as El Cid.

Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (c. 1040 – 1099), better known as El Cid, or simply Rodrigo, was a Castilian nobleman and military leader in medieval Spain. The Moors called him El Cid, which meant the Lord, and the ChristiansEl Campeador, which stood for Outstanding Warrior. He was born in Vivar, a town near the city of Burgos. After his death, he became Castile’s celebrated national hero and the protagonist of the most significant medieval Spanish epic poem, El Cantar de Mio Cid”  source: Wikipedia

The actual man’s personal history has been somewhat obscured and overwritten by the legends, songs, stories and poems of this bigger than life hero but there is much historical data that can be verified.

Charlton Heston portrayed this hero in the 1961 movie

Learning from history is tough, even for those who remember it.   Parallels are never exact.  The importance of each difference between then and now is a judgement call.   Consider a darkly hilarious cartoon by Jen Sorensen:

Mandatory Birthing Center

Yes, the resemblance of the armed guard to a Nazi storm trooper is as subtle as a sledge hammer.   Fine by me.   Maybe it will overcome the American propensity for historical amnesia and wishful thinking.

Much to my dismay, Hillary Clinton is the only Trump opponent who might conceivably be elected.   The progressive purists who disdain supporting Clinton are confident that something like what happened in Germany in 1932 and 1933 could not happen…
