AS MUCH AS 40 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS JUST A YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPER, I WORKED AT THE LONG BEACH GRAND PRIX IN CALIFORNIA. ONE OF THE LAST YEARS I WORKED THE RACE EVENT ONE OF THE SUPPORT RACES WAS A BICYCLE RACE, IT WAS SPECTACULAR AND SCARY AND I’VE ALWAYS HAD A SMALL PLACE IN MY HEART RESERVED FOR THIS TYPE OF SPORT. WHILE I DON’T ACTUALLY FOLLOW BIKE RACING OR AUTO RACING ANYMORE, WE DO HAVE AN ANNUAL EVENT ONCE A YEAR IN A SMALL TOWN 4 MILES FROM WHERE I LIVE AND I TRY TO ATTEND AT LEAST ONE OF THE DAYS, USUALLY THE FINAL LEG ENDING IN THE SMALL DOWNTOWN AREA.
IT IS AN INTERNATIONAL EVENT AND VERY EXCITING. ALTHOUGH THE MONTHS PRECEDING IT CAN BE A LITTLE HAIRY WITH THE LOCAL PARTICIPANTS DASHING AROUND FROM TOWN TO TOWN IN TRAINING. TODAY I FOUND THIS VIDEO AND THOUGHT IT WAS WORTH THE WATCH. ENJOY. ~~dru~~
