It was my father, not my mother, who actually taught me to cook. (Such as i do and only on occasions) His first and foremost instruction….”Go to the cupboard, open it, look what is inside. Then go to the fridge, open it, look at what is inside, THEN DECIDE WHAT YOU’RE MAKING FOR DINNER. — Make it — Dinner is served!
Sometimes the best meals are made without following a recipe. Then sometimes they MISS but to my mind, recipes are just a stepping stone to cooking.

The chef cat is wonderful!
I thought it was wonderful and just an aside, the first picture is to my mind what my 3 siblings and I (the chef) looked like as we had to make dinner most evenings because both my parents worked.
We were such monsters the four of us that by the time I was about 11, we’d driven all the babysitter/housekeepers off and my mother told us dinner was now our responsibility. te te hee hee ~~dru~~
So true. I tend to usually cook with no recipe, after years of feeling things out and what’s in the fridge/freezer. Best way to cook, Dru. Love the image, “Joy of Rodents.” ❤
I like the mice on aspic myself, at least that is what it looks like to me. His instructions were very helpful…my mother would just say make dinner and leave it at that; he’d go into the kitchen (if he was home) and help me work out a plan.

It’s known that male chefs are amazing with concocting recipes. Bless your dad.
Hi Poet, he actually was a fairly amazing and until just a few years before his death, he was still doing a lot of the grocery shopping and preparing the evening meals for his daughter and her son. ~~dru~~
Sounds like you were both fortunate to have known each other. Good man.
Nice Imagination.
Yes, recipes are just a stepping stone to cooking. I eventually noticed that I get better results and have more fun by prepping mindfully in amounts that look good and paying paying close attention to how things look and smell as they cook.
Yes even for such a one as me, that is the joy of cooking and never forget cooking should be an art not just a chore. ~~dru~~
